Reminders don't arrive
It's almost always the phone, not the app: many manufacturers close background apps to save battery, and their reminders go with them. Check these in order.
1. Dozzitt's permissions
In Dozzitt, open Settings and check that Notifications and, on Android, Exact timing are allowed. If you use Alarm mode, also allow Full-screen alarms and Do Not Disturb. Without exact timing, Android can delay a reminder by up to an hour.
2. Don't swipe the app away
Swiping Dozzitt away from the recent apps list can cancel its reminders on some phones. There's no need to close it: when it isn't open, it uses no battery.
3. Remove battery restrictions
Menu names vary by model and version, but the idea is always the same: stop the phone from halting Dozzitt in the background.
Samsung
- Settings → Apps → Dozzitt → Battery and choose Unrestricted.
- Settings → Device care → Battery → Background usage limits: make sure Dozzitt isn't under Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO
- Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Dozzitt: turn on Autostart.
- On the same screen, Battery saver → No restrictions.
- Optional: in recent apps, long-press Dozzitt and tap the lock so the system doesn't close it.
Motorola
- Settings → Apps → Dozzitt → App battery usage and choose Unrestricted.
Huawei and Honor
- Settings → Battery → App launch: turn off Manage automatically for Dozzitt and leave Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background on.
OPPO, realme and OnePlus
- Settings → Apps → Dozzitt → Battery usage: allow background activity and auto launch.
- Optional: lock Dozzitt in recent apps so it isn't closed.
Other Android phones
- Settings → Apps → Dozzitt → Battery and choose Unrestricted or Don't optimise.
- dontkillmyapp.com has instructions for almost every manufacturer.
iPhone
- Settings → Notifications → Dozzitt: turn on Allow Notifications and Time Sensitive Notifications.
- If you use Focus modes, check under Settings → Focus that they allow Time Sensitive notifications, or add Dozzitt to the allowed apps.
- If you use Alarm mode, allow Dozzitt's alarms when the app asks, and check the ringer volume.
4. Check the phone's clock
If the date, time or time zone is wrong, reminders arrive at the wrong time. Turn on automatic time in the phone's settings.
Backing up and restoring
Turning on backups
- In Dozzitt, open Settings → Backups and tap Activate backups.
- Choose a folder. If you pick one in iCloud Drive or Google Drive, your backup stays safe even if you lose the phone.
- If you like, tap Set a passphrase to encrypt your backups. Keep it somewhere safe: if you forget it, there's no way to recover it.
Restoring a backup
- Open Settings → Backups.
- Pick a backup from the list, or tap Restore from a file to find one in any folder.
- If the backup is protected and came from another phone, type the passphrase it was saved with.
Note: restoring replaces everything currently in the app with what the backup holds.
Moving to a new phone
- On the old phone, tap Back up now and make sure the file is in a folder you can reach from the new one (for example, in the cloud), or share it with yourself.
- Install Dozzitt on the new phone and open Settings → Backups → Restore from a file.
- Type the backup's passphrase, if it has one, and turn backups on again on the new phone.
